Election contested, legal action likely coming

The campaign to elect Shannon Brown representative for District 31 hit another snag on Monday morning.

A written request by the Shannon Brown campaign to review the 234 affidavit and absentee ballots from two of Washington County’s voting precincts for the House District 31 Representative’s seat was not honored on Monday.






Another Moorhead officer’s car torched, arrest made

For the second time in three months, arsonists have torched personal vehicles owned by Moorhead police officers, but this latest incident has sparked an arrest.

Henry Lewis 50, whose address is said to be 402 Spruce St., Greenville, was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and trespassing after notice of non-permission.





Aldermen miss chance to reschedule Nov. 12 meeting

A special call meeting of the Indianola Board of Aldermen slated for Monday night had to be cancelled because the meeting was one alderman shy of a quorum.

One of the items on the agenda was a request to approve rescheduling the upcoming regular session set for Monday Nov. 12 because of the Veterans Day holiday.




Logistics, money main issues for farmers and county in Airport Road closure to big trucks

A group of about 15 local farmers and landowners showed up Monday at a public hearing held by the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors to help drive home the point that the large trucks that haul their harvest should not be restricted from travel on Airport Road.
