This morning during my quiet time, I was led to Genesis 19. In brief, in this particular text, God made the decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because it was infested with sin.
God sent angels to tell a man named Lot to get his family, his wife and two daughters, out of the city to escape what was to come.
They were also given specific instructions to “run for their lives and to not look back”, which, to me, meant do not love the things of the former to the point that you are willing to disobey God’s specific instructions.
GUESS WHAT? Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.
How awful right? I know she wished a million times she would’ve listened and obeyed. Lot and his daughters survived.
Likewise, there are some places God is calling us out of...because it is headed for destruction.
We won’t turn into a pillar of salt, literally, but if and when we look back, it can and will cost us everything, LITERALLY.
When God asks us to release things and people and to detach ourselves from situations, it’s not to restrict us, it’s to protect us. He sees what we cannot see and knows what we do not know. God will never ask us to leave places that are beneficial to our spiritual growth, only those that are detrimental to it. As I always say, when we walk in obedience to God by moving when He says move, He will never let anything we HAD be the best we will ever HAVE. For that reason, we do not have to be so in love with the things of the past that we refuse to let go. I imagine that Lot’s wife loved her life and she did not want to leave that life behind.
It was familiar. She was comfortable. She was complacent….but when God says let go, we have to let go. When God says walk away, we have to walk away.
You’ve heard God and you know exactly what He has asked you leave behind. “Run for your life and don’t look back”…He’s trying to protect you! There’s greater ahead. ❤️
