Highway 82 Cleanup

The Girl Scout Troops 30105 and 30123 have partnered with The Mic Magazine in an effort to cleanup the community along Highway 82 on the outskirts of Indianola near the Capps Center. Volunteers are welcome to join in on the litter prevention fun at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.

 

SCCSD Monthly Board Meeting

Sunflower County Consolidated School District March Board Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Lockard Elementary School.

 

Alcorn Alumni Meeting

The Sunflower County Chapter of Alcorn State University National Alumni Association, Inc. will meet at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19  at Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church, located on B. B. King Road.  All members are encouraged to attend.

 

MSU Extension Service - ServSafe® Food Safety Certification Course

Attention! Restaurant Owners, Managers, Employees who need certification in ServSafe®!   The ServSafe® Food Safety Course will be offered in Indianola starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23. Cost of the certification training is $140.00 per person. Space is limited-sign up today.   Must register by Friday, April 5th.

Personnel

The Retired Education Personnel of Sunflower County will meet at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Henry Seymour Library. All retirees are invited to attend.

 

Class of ‘74

The GHS Class of ’74 will have a meeting at 5 p.m. Sunday at Pizza Hut.

 

Children’s Extravaganza

The Sunflower County Children Extravaganza, brought to you by Change 4 A Change, S.E.L.F. (Supreme Elites Leading Families) and Y.A.G.A. (Youth Against Gang Activity) will take place at B.B. King Park on Saturday, March 23 from noon to 6 p.m. There will be food, fun jumps, prizes, refreshments, games, toys, train rides, face painting, a live DJ and a special balloon release honoring Earnestia “Nee Nee” Hunter.

 

Choir Concert

The Sunflower County MVSU Alumni Association presents its annual Choir Concert, featuring the voices of the mighty MVSU Choir along with the Gentry High School Choir, at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at First United Baptist Church, Indianola. All friends and alumni of the Valley are invited to join them for an exciting afternoon on this special occasion.

 

Be Smart: Control Your Diabetes

The B.B. King Museum’s Be Smart: Control your Diabetes program will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, March 28. Please join them for this educational experience in learning all about how to control and manage your diabetes.

 

Delta Baby Cafe

Sunflower County will have a new resource for expectant mothers and their families beginning in April. The Delta Baby Café - Let’s Talk will be located inside the Sunflower County Health Department in Indianola. The Café, which is a drop-in site for all pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum mothers and their families, will be open every Tuesday from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. For more information families can call Jackie Lambert at 662-763-1744.
