MVSU Alumni Meeting
The Sunflower County Chapter of Mississippi Valley State University Alumni Association will have its regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of First United Baptist Church, 720 Coolidge Street. All alumni and friends of are welcome to attend.
Domestic Violence Awareness Conference
A Domestic Violence Awareness Conference, presented by the Moorhead Police Department, will be held at 6 p.m. June 6, in the Moorhead Community Room at the Moorhead Library. The guest speaker will be Yolanda Turner Evans, a domestic violence survivor. The event is hosted by Police Chief Bobby Walker and will also feature Dilworth Rick of Our House, Inc., and Judge Kuykendal Horne-Murry.

MSU Extension Service
nDiabetic Support Group meets the 4th Thursday of every month during the noon hour at the B.B. King Museum. A lunch is served along with an educational component to help you better understand diabetes. (June 28, July 26, August 23)
nCanning 101: Brown Bag Lunch’n Learn at noon today, at the extension office. Come learn all about canning basics including: equipment, processes, and produce and to be sure you are canning correctly. Bring your pressure canner and get it tested.
nArts/Crafts, Sewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4-8 for ages 9 and up. There will be a $10 registration fee. Must be paid to reserve spot. Space is limited.
nThe Indianola Farmer’s Market begins from 4 to 6 p.m. June 7 across the street from the B.B. King Museum. Come support the market and get locally grown produce. See you at the market every Thursday until produce runs out!
nChildcare Trainings: If you are a child care provider and need hours to keep your certification, Sunflower, Washington, Leflore, and Carroll Extension Agents will be offering Child Care trainings. The next training will be from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. June 9 at the Washington Extension Office. The cost is $8 for 5 hours of training. Call the office for more information, 887-1901.
nJr. Chef for ages 9 and up will be from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18-22. There is a $50 pre-registration fee that must be paid to reserve spot. Space is limited! Time will vary on days for field trips.
nSunflower Stitchers meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. at the extension office. (June 20, July 18, August 15)
nInverness Public Library will have a May Flowers program from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. today.Young adults can come to the library and learn how to plant flowers and create their own gardens.
nAt 6 p.m. June 5, the H.M.S. Library and the Blue Biscuit Book Club will sponsor a visit by Rose Mary Stiffin, who was raised and educated in Indianola and is the author of several short stories and five novels.
Come learn more about Dr. Stiffin’s books and how she became known as the “Left Handed Writer”.
