Denton Eugene “Gene” Skelton, 81, of Indianola, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at South Sunflower County Hospital.
Gene was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Indianola to John Carl Skelton Sr. and Nettie Faye Parkerson Skelton. He attended Indianola High School and later served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Gene was the owner of Indianola Domino Club and Pool Hall in Indianola. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Indianola during the 1960s and 1970s. Gene was a member of American Legion Post #2 and VFW Post #4731. He was a Baptist by faith.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Robert G. Skelton Jr.; and niece, Lisa Kaye Marshall.
He is survived by two brothers, John Carl Skelton Jr. (Carol Ann) of Indianola and Robert Glenn Skelton (Claudette) of Greenville; four nephews, John C. Skelton III, Ryan Skelton, Mark Skelton and Barry Skelton; and one niece, Jeana Spillman.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Indianola City Cemetery.
Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
