Lady Tigers get care package from team they eliminated last week

It’s not unusual for schools to root for other teams when their win might bump them into a higher bracket.

But the Thomas E. Edwards Lady Tigers got a surprise in the mail this week from a team they beat and eliminated last week.

The Booneville girls basketball team sent Lady Tiger Head Coach Chaquita Bracey a box with snacks and a card wishing the girls good luck as they face Belmont on Friday at Itwamba Community College.

Thomas E. Edwards Principal Eric Lakes wrote this on Faceobook on Wednesday.

“Today our girls basketball coach received a box in the mail from Booneville High School. Be reminded we played Booneville last week and won. We didn't know what was in the box, but to our surprise, it was a box full of snacks for the girls and a card wishing the girls good luck on the game Friday night. When you think true sportsmanship is dead, but today was a testament that it is still alive!!! Thanks to Booneville High School Head girls basketball coach and his wonderful team for a true act of kindness!!!!! #WINNING”

The Lady Tigers play Friday at 4 p.m., as they try to advance to Jackson and hopefully a 3A state title.
