Alcorn student from Itta Bena among two dead after Port Gibson shooting

An Itta Bena native is among four Alcorn State University students who were shot late on Monday at a residence in Port Gibson.

James Carr, 22, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation died as a result of his injuries.

Tahir Fitzhugh, 19, of Pennsylvania, died as well, a release from MBI said on Tuesday.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Monday, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department received a call advising multiple people had been shot at the residence off Highway 61, the release said.

A third victim is being treated at an area hospital, while a fourth was reported injured during the shooting, MBI said.

A person of interest has been identified and law enforcement is attempting to locate that individual, the release also said.
