Anthony, Rosebud to serve on Corrections committee

Mississippi legislators received their committee appointments this week, and Sunflower County’s two representatives in the House will serve together on two committees.

District 31 State Rep. Otis Anthony and District 30 Rep. Tracey Rosebud will serve together on the Agriculture and the Corrections committees.

Anthony told The E-T earlier this month that he had requested to be on the Corrections committee during the height of the early 2020 violence at Parchman.

He said he would like to see more transparency across the board from state agencies, but he said at the time, given the opportunity, he would look closely at the standards and procedures in all Mississippi Department of Corrections facilities.

Rosebud, who lives just a few miles from Parchman, expressed concerns about a possible push to shut the northern Sunflower County prison down in the wake of the violence and deaths that marred the first two weeks of the year.

Rosebud said Parchman is a big employer in the region, not just for Sunflower County residents, but for those in neighboring counties as well.

Below are the full lists of committees for both representatives.
