Mississippi Delta Community College has a new leader.
The MDCC Board of Trustees announced tonight the selection of Dr. Tyrone Jackson as the college’s ninth president, effective July 1.
Jackson comes to MDCC after most recently serving as vice president for Utica Campus & Administrative Services at Hinds Community College, according to a release by MDCC.
“I am honored for the opportunity to serve as the next president of Mississippi Delta Community College,” said Jackson. “I am thankful to the board of trustees for the confidence bestowed upon me to lead this great institution. My family and I are excited to be returning home to the delta.”
Jackson succeeds Dr. Larry Nabors who has served the college since 2013.
A native of Rosedale, Jackson received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Delta State University.
He holds and undergraduate degree in sociology, a master’s in education and a doctorate in education.
Jackson began his career at DSU, where he served as an admissions counselor/recruiter, and he served as associate director of housing and residence life/director of multi-cultural affairs.
He would later transition to become director of graduate studies, assistant dean and later interim dean at DSU.
Jackson would move from DSU to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he served as associate vice president for student services .
Jackson will be joined in Moorhead by his wife Kashanta and two children, Tyler, 12, and Kennedi, 8.
The search committee for MDCC’s president was chaired by Trustee Frank Dantone of Greenville. The committee utilized the services of an educational consulting firm led by Dr. Butch Caston and Dr. William Lott.
