Escaped inmate captured in Sunflower County

An escaped Parchman inmate is behind bars again.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Benny Ray Blansett was captured at a checkpoint in Sunflower County on Saturday night around 11 p.m.

It is not clear at this time where in Sunflower County he was captured.

Blansett apparently escaped his cell sometime on Thursday night or Friday morning.

He was discovered missing around 3:17 a.m. on the morning of July 5, MDOC previously said.

Blansett, 59, is currently serving life for uttering forgery, aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary and escape in Marion County.
