An inmate serving a life sentence for capital murder escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman on Thursday.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections is currently investigating how Jonathan Matthew Moberg fled the facility.
Moberg was spotted by a citizen in the northern Sunflower County community of Rome on Thursday morning.
MDOC said a Sunflower County Sheriff’s deputy arrived, handcuffed Moberg, and took him to the Drew Police Department.
MDOC officers arrived a short time later to take Moberg back to Parchman.
”We are still interviewing staff, and all the missing links are being investigated,” Interim Commissioner Tommy Taylor said.
Moberg, MDOC #219173, was sentenced on Oct. 3, 2018, in Greene County.
