The Indianola Academy Colonels football team (10-5) ended their season just like the previous four – in the state championship game in Jackson.
Unfortunately, the IA squad’s season ended like the previous two, with a defeat in the final game, this time against Greenville St. Joe, which claimed its third consecutive trophy on Friday evening, a 55-24 win, as the sun went down over the field at Jackson Academy.
The loss was highlighted by an eventful second quarter which saw the Fighting Irish put up a flurry of points as a result of sound offense, defense and special teams play.
St. Joe opened up a 42-10 lead at halftime, with Thomas Putnam’s 15-yard strike to Leland Selby accounting for the lone touchdown of the half for the Colonels.
IA would put up two more scores, but it would not be enough to overcome the early deficit.
Be sure to pick up the Thanksgiving edition of The E-T for more pictures and analysis of the Colonels’ 2019 run.
The E-T will also put out a special edition on Dec. 5 to commemorate the Colonels’ season, which began 2-4 before they rattled off eight wins in a row to reach the title game.
