Inmate assumed missing from Parchman

By BRYAN DAVIS PUBLISHER,

At least one inmate from the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman is presumed missing tonight, as officials with the Mississippi Department of Corrections are actively counting inmates at the prison in northern Sunflower County.

Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood told The E-T tonight the count is ongoing but residents in the area should be on high caution.

He also confirmed that the assumed escape is connected to a game cam photo taken before noon Friday of someone in a field near Parchman in red and white pants.

The E-T has viewed this photo, which shows a time stamp of 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 3.

Haywood also confirmed that the count being conducted is connected to a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) issued earlier by the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department regarding a stolen 2011 Black GMC truck.

“Be on the look out for a Black 2011 GMC PICKUP TRUCK TAG - 1AE734 REGISTERED TO NEBLETT AND ALLENDALE PLANTATION STOLEN FROM A FARM HEADQUARTERS IN SHELBY, MS APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS AGO,” the post said.

Right above the BOLO, was this message, “From the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department...… We do NOT have any offenders from our Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility missing. All of offenders here are accounted for. If you need more information, please contact us at 6628435378. Thanks for your immediate attention. (PLEASE SHARE)”

The news comes after three days of gang-related rioting that led to three deaths, one each day, and multiple injuries.

MDOC released a detailed statement Friday afternoon that indicated the latest situation was under control.

The E-T reached out to MDOC's communications office by email prior to the publication of this article but has received no comment.
