Local COVID-19 cases rise from Friday

The number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in Sunflower County saw a jump between Friday’s report and Saturday morning.

The number of patients rose by five from 13 to 18, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health on Saturday.

The number of deaths related to the novel coronavirus locally stands at one. That fatality was first reported last Friday night.

The state as a whole saw 97 new positive tests and six fatalities between Friday’s report and Saturday morning. There are now 1,455 positive tests and 35 deaths in the state.

There have been no reports of long-term care facility outbreaks locally.

This is a statistic the State Department of Health began reporting this week.

Neighboring Bolivar County has 34 confirmed tests, one death and one report of an outbreak at a long-term care facility.

Leflore has 22 positive tests, Washington has 31, Humphreys has four and Tallahatchie has two.
