Monday Parchman death does not appear to be the result of foul play
A Monday death at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman does not appear to be the result of foul play.
Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton said James Allen Brown passed away this afternoon, and she was notified of the death at 3:38 p.m.
She arrived an hour later and began an investigation, she said in a press release today.
“The offender was in the inpatient department and had been receiving treatment for a terminal illness,” Burton said. “I do not suspect that foul play was involved.”
Per routine with in-custody offenders, Brown’s body is being transferred to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner for autopsy, she said. The official cause and manner of death are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
Brown was serving a life sentence for murder and burglary of a residence in Scott County. The 59-year-old began serving his sentence in June of 1993.
