Murder suspect in Custody

By STAFF REPORTS,

An Indianola man wanted in connection with a Wednesday evening shooting that resulted in the death of one man and the hospitalization of another is now in police custody.

Shortly after noon on Monday, Chief Edrick Hall said Stephon Snipes 20, 200 Maybelle Street, turned himself in to law enforcement officers.

Snipes had been named as a person of interest following the fatal attack that took place on or in the vicinity of Brantley Circle last week. However, Hall said an arrest warrant charging Snipes with first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon has now been issued.

According to Indianola police, the shooting incident took place June 12 around 8 p.m., when a man, who was reportedly standing in the street, allegedly fired into a vehicle hitting two of the occupants. The initial information provided by police said D’Angelo Davis and a yet unnamed person were injured when the gunfire erupted.

Davis and the second victim were then taken to South Sunflower County Hospital where Davis was later pronounced dead. The other victim was transferred to a Jackson area hospital with a gunshot wound to his back, but his current condition is not known at this time.

Hall said then the shooting was possibly in retaliation for another shooting incident that happened prior, but no further details were given.

Police are still asking for anyone with information regarding the assault to please contact them.
