Two inmates at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman passed away in the prison’s hospital this week.
MDOT confirmed the two deaths this week, and Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton said in a press release that she was notified of the first inmate death at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Both prisoners’ identities are being withheld pending the next of kin notification.
The second inmate passed on Friday morning, and Burton said she was notified around 9 a.m.
“There was no evidence of foul play noted upon initial investigation, however, official cause of death are pending final autopsy results,” Burton said.
Both offenders, the release said, have been sent to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
