Second Congressional District primary runoff decided

The results of Tuesday's Second Congressional District Republican runoff election are in and according to information released by the Sunflower County Circuit Clerk's Office, voter turnout was sparse. The Republican runoff pitted Brian Flowers against Thomas L. Carey. Out of 17 precincts in Sunflower County only 95 ballots were cast plus one absentee and one affidavit.

Flowers captured 59 of the 97 total votes cast for 60.82 percent of the total. Carey received 37 votes and there was one write-in ballot.

Flowers will go on to face Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson in the November general election.
