Valentine's Day shooting injures infantBy BY RECARDO THOMAS STAFF REPORTER,
Indianola police are currently investigating a Valentine's Day shooting that resulted in a two-year old child being injured.
Police Chief Edrick Hall said his officers received a call around 10:35 p.m., Friday night regarding a child that was brought in to the emergency room at South Sunflower County Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck.
The infant was apparently shot while riding with the father in a car that was located in the 300 block of Church Street, and according to Hall, the child was not the apparent target.
Hall said, the child's parents, who are ex boyfriend and girlfriend, where reportedly involved in a domestic violence dispute when the incident took place.
Even though he is not releasing the name of the shooter or the parents at this time, Hall they know who he is and it is neither of the parents.
He said the shooter is not an Indianola resident, but is related to one of the child's parents. Hall said the incident is still under investigation and they are encouraging the shooter to turn himself in since they know his identity.
He said it is just a matter of time before the shooter is apprehended. Hall said he expects to have more information to release within the next 48 hours. The child was airlifted to a Jackson area hospital and reportedly is in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.
