Twenty-five Indianola Academy athletes competed in the annual Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Swimming Championships, held in the fall at the DSU Natatorium in Cleveland.
The Colonels competed in individual and relay events with hundreds of entrants from eighteen secondary schools and twenty-two elementary schools.
The secondary IA squad placed seventh overall, and the elementary team placed twelfth.
In individual secondary events, three junior high swimmers placed in the top five.
Eighth grader Minhye Park placed third in the 50 Breaststroke and fourth in the 50 Freestyle, eighth grader Jack Jenkins earned 5th place in the 50 Backstroke, and freshman Jiyoung Seo earned 5th place for her 50 Butterfly. In addition, five top 10 finishes were recorded.
Seo placed ninth in the 50 Freestyle, and Jenkins placed eighth for his 50 Freestyle.
In the high school division, junior Avery Daniels finished ninth in the 50 Breaststroke and junior Sarah Frances Downs placed 10th for her 50 Backstroke.
The 50 Backstroke event saw sophomore Brewer Wright finishing ninth and junior Jacob Sepulvado finishing 10th.
Relay teams also finished well.
In the female high school division, the team of Avery Daniels, Sarah Frances Downs, Anna Grace Rowland and Allie Rodgers finished sixth in both the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Medley Relay.
In the male high school division, the team of Jacob Sepulvado, Jack Jenkins, Brewer Wright and Connor Moore finished sixth in the 200 Free Relay.
The junior high girls team of Jiyoung Seo, Maggie Jenkins, Meadow Smith and Minhye Park took sixth place honors for their 200 Freestyle Relay while the team of Audrey Jenkins, Minhye Park, Jiyoung Seo and Katie Arrington placed fifth in the 200 Medley Relay.
In the female elementary division, the team of Kelly Arrington, Kathryn Chism, Lilli Dawson and Maggie Jenkins swam their way to a first place finish in the 100 Medley Relay.
Coach Beverly Hale leads the team and was assisted this season by DSU swimmer Walker Todd, DSU student and former Delta Aquatic Club swimmer Ethan Oltremari, MSU student and former DAC swimmer Daylen Bills and team manager Michelle Van Cleve.
