When it comes to the debate over whether a massive pumping project in the South Delta is both financially and environmentally responsible, people on both sides of the argument throw out numbers to make their case.

I tend to put more stock in the numbers provided by Delta Council, the Mississippi Levee Board and other pump proponents.




County chooses contractor for College Avenue project

Even though three contractors picked up information packets to bid on the construction of the long-awaited College Avenue Bridge, County Engineer Ron Cassada told the County Board of Supervisors on Monday that only Greenwood-based Mac McNeer Construction Co., Inc. actually submitted a bid.






County to address MDCC District 3 board appointment July 1

A motion by District 5 Supervisor Gloria Dickerson to go ahead and vacate the seat of the District 3 appointee to the Mississippi Delta Community College board of trustees, effective July 1, was temporarily rescinded at Monday’s Sunflower County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, but will be back on the table at the lawmakers’ next meeting.
