Four local heroes:Sunflower County crew helps save woman, daughter from water

A Yazoo City woman and her daughter are alive today because of the help of several strangers, including four from Sunflower County.

Jackie Jenkins, Jack Jenkins, Connor Moore and Seth Todd were looking to unwind last week by doing some fishing on the coast, but that would not be their first experience in the water that day.










Heroes work here

The banner is now up at South Sunflower County Hospital, provided by First Baptist Church of Indianola, Andy Daniels, State Farm Agent and Family Dental Care, the sign pays tribute to the front line heroes working at the hospital.

Merlin Williams

Graveside services for Merlin Williams of Belzoni will be at 12 noon Saturday at Swiftown United Baptist Cemetery, Swiftown.

Mr. Williams, 65, died Thursday, May 21, 2020.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, Belzoni, which is in charge of arrangements.



Inez Roberts

Graveside services for Inez Roberts of Belzoni will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sudden Cemetery, Belzoni.

Ms. Roberts, 86, died Saturday, May 23, 2020.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, Belzoni, which is in charge of arrangements.


Rex Ann Whitley

Graveside services for Rex Ann Whitley of Indianola were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at Indianola Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Whitley, 50, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 in Indianola.

Redmon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
