Sheriff holds giveaway

Inverness Elementary School Principal Brenda Singleton and Secretary Elizabeth Steen accept the gifts and toys from Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department Payroll Clerk Brandi Howard and Deputy Felecia Jordan who traveled the length of the county distributing the donations for students who otherwise might not have a joyous Christmas.




Gray speaks to Rotary Club

Rev. Peter Gray of Greenwood recently addressed the Indianola Rotary Club, detailing some of the history of the Christian Church in Ireland. Gray and his wife, Indianola Rotary President Giulianna Gray, took sabbatical this past summer, and Ireland was one of the countries they visited.




Looney talks Crop to Pop at Lions

John Mark Looney, Jr. of Leland spoke to the Lions Club about his latest farming product "Crop to Pop." John Mark works with his father on their family farm Six Mile Farms located in Tribbett. In 2016 John Mark decided to try his hand at growing popcorn, so on two acres previously used to grow milo he grew popcorn.

Community Blood Drive

North Sunflower Medical Center and Mississippi Blood Services are hosting a Community Blood Drive from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. TODAY (Thursday, Jan. 2) at the hospital. Donors will receive a T-shirt and $10 gift card. Start the year off right by saving a life!

Qualifying deadlines announced

Sunflower County is getting ready for another round of elections.

It won’t be on the same scale as the 2019 election cycle, but according to Sunflower County Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton, the qualifying period for election commissioners starts today and ends June 1.
