Sunflower County native, longtime Leflore judge Curtis Gene Underwood passes away


Curtis Gene Underwood Sr., a former Leflore County Justice Court judge, was known for his gregarious nature and love of the outdoors as well as his fairness on the bench.

“He was always smiling and happy and telling jokes,” Kim O’Bryant, Underwood’s daughter, said Monday.

Inverness Elementary School Principal Brenda Singleton and Secretary Elizabeth Steen accept the gifts and toys from Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department Payroll Clerk Brandi Howard and Deputy Felecia Jordan who traveled the length of the county distributing the donations for students who otherwise might not have a joyous Christmas.

Gray speaks to Rotary Club

Rev. Peter Gray of Greenwood recently addressed the Indianola Rotary Club, detailing some of the history of the Christian Church in Ireland. Gray and his wife, Indianola Rotary President Giulianna Gray, took sabbatical this past summer, and Ireland was one of the countries they visited.
