Fighting Mississippi’s opioid epidemic has become the passion of one Indianola native.

Selene Dunn Maddox has been practicing law, specifically bankruptcy law, in north Mississippi for over 30 years, but she has never forgotten her roots in the Delta and Indianola.

Ambassadors ring holiday bells

On Dec. 15, 11 B.B. King Ambassadors rang the bell at the Wal-mart in Indianola for the Salvation Army to help needy families in the area. The Ambassadors wore Santa hats and reindeer ears as they sang songs and encouraged the shoppers to contribute to this worthwhile organization.

Sheriff’s annual toy giveaway

Sheriff James Haywood and the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department began distributing toys to county elementary schools on Wednesday and will continue today and possibly tomorrow with the intent purpose of making children whose Christmas would otherwise be bleak, a little brighter.

Skaggs speaks to Lions Club

Lion Alan McCaskill recently brought Rev. Trey Skaggs from First United Methodist Church in Indianola as his speaker at the Indianola Lions Club.  Rev. Skaggs reminded the club that Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the Christ child. He said all are to look outwardly as Jesus did in serving the last, least and lost.
