Queens and kings from East Sunflower Elementary School’s Homecoming Court spread Christmas cheer at the Walter B. Crook Rehabilitation Center in Ruleville recently. These students visited with residents and presented them with gifts.
Curtis Gene Underwood Sr., a former Leflore County Justice Court judge, was known for his gregarious nature and love of the outdoors as well as his fairness on the bench.
“He was always smiling and happy and telling jokes,” Kim O’Bryant, Underwood’s daughter, said Monday.

Inverness Elementary School Principal Brenda Singleton and Secretary Elizabeth Steen accept the gifts and toys from Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department Payroll Clerk Brandi Howard and Deputy Felecia Jordan who traveled the length of the county distributing the donations for students who otherwise might not have a joyous Christmas.
Agents with the Mississippi State Extension Service recently held their annual luncheon for local volunteers, county and state officials. The purpose of the gathering was to share information on the various programs and activities and update the stakeholders on the progress of their programs.
Rev. Peter Gray of Greenwood recently addressed the Indianola Rotary Club, detailing some of the history of the Christian Church in Ireland. Gray and his wife, Indianola Rotary President Giulianna Gray, took sabbatical this past summer, and Ireland was one of the countries they visited.
Keon Beamon has been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. He is enrolled in Draft Design Technology at Mississippi Delta Community College where he has been selected a Fall Opportunity Scholar. Keon is a 2018 graduate of Restoration Ministries Christian Academy.
