State has 1st West Nile Virus death

The Mississippi Department of Health said Monday that a Grenada County resident is the first West Nile virus death in the state for 2017. It reported nine new cases in the last week, bringing the state total to 19 for 2017. Sunflower County has not had a case this year. Forrest and Hinds counties lead the state with four each.




Blood drive set for Indianola

Mississippi Blood Services will be holding a community blood drive at the Indianola Walmart on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from noon to 6 p.m.
Donors will receive a T-shirt and a gift card (while supplies last) and will be entered to win a new Ram 1500 4x4 truck. Donors can also check their cholesterol levels online.
