The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team, and the entire Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC), will strictly play in-state competition in 2021, as approved by a league-wide schedule from the league office that was released earlier this week.
The 42-game slate is a break from the traditional 46-game schedule which included out-of-state competition, and is due in large part to COVID-19 guidelines. The altered setup now has the Trojans facing each MACCC North division opponent in a doubleheader during the non-conference portion of the schedule for a total of 14 games.
The non-conference slate will get underway on Saturday, Jan. 30, when Delta travels to Holmes Community College for a double dip. The other six non-conference doubleheaders are Itawamba Community College (home, Feb. 3), Coahoma Community College (home, Feb. 6), at Holmes Community College (Feb. 9), at Northeast Community College (Feb. 17), Northwest Community College (home, Feb. 20) and at East Mississippi Community College (Feb. 23)
The conference portion of the schedule starts on Saturday, Feb. 27 when MDCC welcomes Meridian Community College to Moorhead for a 12 p.m. first pitch. After a grueling 28-game conference schedule, Delta will wrap up regular season play on Saturday, April 24 when Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College comes to town for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
The MACCC is currently still in the process of finalizing information in regards to fan capacity, who is allowed to come to home/away games, etc. This also goes for the 2021 playoffs, which are still under discussion due to COVID-19.
