A new level of care: Bellipanni continues her calling in the air as a flight nurse


Elizabeth Bellipanni always wanted to become a nurse.

After graduating from Indianola Academy, she did just that, coming back home to work at South Sunflower County Hospital in her hometown.

Earlier this year, however, she took her profession to a new level, becoming a flight nurse.

Statewide mask mandate coming, Sunflower County among areas ordered to delay school

Gov. Tate Reeves announced plans today to issue a statewide mandate on masks in retail establishments and at public gatherings.

He also plans to issue an executive order delaying the start of school for grades 7-12 in a handful of counties, included Sunflower County, due to COVID-19 spread.

C Spire is teaming up with the Delta Regional Medical Center to debut a remote patient monitoring program in Mississippi for a broad array of chronic medical conditions that will help manage health care costs for hospitals in rural areas and improve the quality of life for patients.

Donnell Brown, 69, of Greenville, formerly of Indianola, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020.

Public visitation will be from 1:30.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements. A family visitation will follow from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Rev. Melvin Matthews will officiate.


Nell Pennebaker Stevens

Graveside services for Nell Pennebaker Stevens, 87, of Indianola will be

held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21at Southside Cemetery in Inverness.  She

passed away Sunday July 19, 2020 at Indywood Personal Care Home in

Indianola.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home,


Revella Moffett Lee

Graveside services for Revella Moffett Lee of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lee, 53, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at South Sunflower County Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Byas Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Sales tax holiday begins Friday

Mississippi’s sales tax holiday is less than 24 hours away.

This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and will end at midnight on Saturday.

For those 24 hours, sales tax is not due on articles of clothing, footwear or school supplies if the sales price of a single item is less than $100.

Keeping the promise: DHA summer program continues to build success for rising kindergarten students


Over 50 rising kindergarten students in Sunflower County are already back in the classroom.

The Promise Schools, which are operated through Delta Health Alliance, have been in session this summer, helping to prepare dozens of area students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.

Loved ones remember young woman shot and killed last Friday


On Friday, April 10, Alberta Garner’s life was cut short just before dawn after shots rang out on Garrard Avenue in Indianola.

Gardner is the city’s second female victim of gunfire this year, and according to police reports, she is likely the second innocent bystander to be killed in Indianola since March.



They are the perfect definition of a work in progress.
