Healthcare topic at Rotary

Healthcare has been the topic of the last two Rotary programs in Indianola. The first was Allison Taylor, who represented the American Cancer Society during the meeting two weeks ago. ‘Here comes the hat trick’

I don’t think I can ever remember a time in my life where I’ve gone several weeks, let alone months, without being able to go into my backyard.

We’re thankful that we have a big backyard for Ellie and Sarah to play in, but the only problem is that there hasn’t been enough break in the rain since December for it to dry up.

Alvin Booth McCarty, 85, of Sunflower, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019. After months of failing health, Alvin “Shotgun” McCarty died peacefully at his home surrounded by family.





Solution to Gillespie flooding clogged at the source

A clogged culvert is said to be the culprit that caused some homeowners on Gillespie Street in Indianola to feel a little more waterlogged than other area residents after last week’s torrential rainfall.

The heavy rains and subsequent storms left up to a half-foot of floodwater in some homes on the north side of the street.

Shortly before Alabama mounted a historic come-from-behind win against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game last Saturday, another Yellowhammer state team was putting the finishing touches on a conference title of its own.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham defeated Middle Tennessee State 27-25 for the Conference USA title.

City says “Concerned Citizens” group can’t meet in public building

After a lengthy debate, the Indianola Board of Aldermen voted 3 to 2 against allowing use of a city-owned building to the Concerned Citizens Committee to conduct its regular monthly meetings.
Alderman Marvin Elder made the motion to allow.
“Let’s not hold them up,” he said. Alderman Ruben Woods seconded and they both voted yes.
