Area restaurant owners ramping up cleanliness, takeout, curbside and delivery services for customers

Many establishments have been hit hard  in the last week, with new guidelines severely limiting their business or shutting them down completely.

Sunflower County restaurants are adapting and stepping up to continue feeding those in and around the county.


Stephanie Anderson

Services for Stephanie Anderson of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Byas Funeral Home.

Ms. Anderson, 41, died Friday, March 13, 2020.

Minister Kyle Pernell will officiate at the services.

Byas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Willie Williams

Graveside services for Willie Williams of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Williams, 75, died Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Mr. Williams is survived by a host of relatives and friends


Ethel Anderson

Graveside services for Ethel Anderson of Indianola will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Cedric Reed officiating.

Mrs. Anderson, 55, died Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Tommie Plummer Sr.

Graveside services for Tommie Plummer Sr. of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Plummer, 52, died Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Minister Francis Plummer will officiate at the services.

Willie Lee Owens Jr.

Willie Lee Owens Jr. was born April 1, 1949 in Drew to the union of Willie Lee Owens Sr. and Virgie Mae Owens, both of whom preceded him in death.

He confessed hope in Christ at the age of nine and was baptized in the United Methodist faith, which served as a great source of comfort throughout his life’s journey.


Mary Johnson

Graveside services for Mary Johnson of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Johnson, 90, died Friday, March 20, 2020.

Elder Walker will officiate at the services.

There’s a lot to be said about the dwindling population in the Mississippi Delta.

That trend continues to negatively affect the region’s healthcare, education and economic development.

It’s difficult recruiting jobs to a region that is losing its labor pool more and more year-after-year.

A native of Skene, located just outside of Cleveland, Britt has lived in Indianola for over two decades. She’s raised two children here, and recently she assumed the role of one of the city’s top volunteers.



Healthy State, Ole Miss football programs good for everybody

Die-hard Mississippi State football fans who basked in the forced resignation of Hugh Freeze in the summer of 2017 and in the NCAA’s subsequent destruction of the Ole Miss football program hopefully have come to understand that such outcomes are not good for either side of that rivalry, nor the state as a whole.
