The Lady Tigers of Thomas E. Edwards Senior High School have continued to play strong throughout the opening weeks of the basketball season.
In recent action, the Lady Tigers defeated West Tallahatchie 64-39.
In that contest, Jacorriah Bracey scored 39 of the 64 total points, with 12 rebounds and 5 assists.

Girl Scout Troop 30099 recently gathered canned goods and ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners with choice of turkey or ham that were given to ten elderly families in the community. The troop, along with help from other community individuals, has made this a tradition for the past three years.
Scholarship Banquet
Greater New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1111 Garrard Rd., will host their annual Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday. Five graduates from Gentry High School will be awarded the Sarah H. Walker Scholarship! The speaker will be Rev. Adoris Turner.

The Indianola Academy Lady Colonels are well into their basketball season and own a 4-4 record.
Meanwhile, due to another extended football season, the 0-2 Colonels have barely begun their 2019 campaign.

Two men with direct ties to Sunflower County lost their lives in separate vehicle accidents over the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Robert D. Walters was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on US49 in Sunflower County last Friday at 4:22 p.m.

Sandra Moore, the newly elected councilwoman for Ward 4 in Moorhead was sworn in last week by Municipal Court Judge Kuykendall Horne-Murry. Moore won the October 8 special election by a vote of 44-13 over resident T.J. Fairley. The position was vacated after former councilman Kenneth Hemmingway moved out of that ward.

Mississippi Delta Community College plans to begin renovation of the Stauffer-Wood Administration Building this fall.
The building, which was set ablaze during an apparent December 14, 2017 arson and burglary, sustained heavy fire damage, particularly on the south side of the building.

Indianola now has 19 new junior firefighters courtesy of the Indianola Fire Department’s Fire Academy for Kids. The children graduated Friday after completing a weeklong camp on fire safety where they were exposed to instructions on basic life saving techniques and the prevention and suppression of fires.
Mississippi House District 31 Rep. Sara Thomas announced her upcoming retirement from that seat on Friday, and on Saturday, a former Indianola city alderman announced his intention to fill that seat.
