Weekend burglary targets 82 business, mower and other equipment stolen

Someone mowed down a gate and a portion of a fence with a pickup truck over the weekend and stole a trailer loaded with a zero-turn lawn mower and an assortment of tools and other items.

The incident happened in the storage area behind Jennings' Welding on U.S. Highway 82 east.

held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21at Southside Cemetery in Inverness.  She

passed away Sunday July 19, 2020 at Indywood Personal Care Home in

Revella Moffett Lee

Graveside services for Revella Moffett Lee of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lee, 53, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at South Sunflower County Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Byas Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.



Sales tax holiday begins Friday

Mississippi’s sales tax holiday is less than 24 hours away.

This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and will end at midnight on Saturday.

For those 24 hours, sales tax is not due on articles of clothing, footwear or school supplies if the sales price of a single item is less than $100.





Keeping the promise: DHA summer program continues to build success for rising kindergarten students

Over 50 rising kindergarten students in Sunflower County are already back in the classroom.

The Promise Schools, which are operated through Delta Health Alliance, have been in session this summer, helping to prepare dozens of area students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.

Loved ones remember young woman shot and killed last Friday

On Friday, April 10, Alberta Garner’s life was cut short just before dawn after shots rang out on Garrard Avenue in Indianola.

Gardner is the city’s second female victim of gunfire this year, and according to police reports, she is likely the second innocent bystander to be killed in Indianola since March.

Ship builders wanted: Ingalls Shipbuilding comes to Capps Center in search of labor

Ingalls Shipbuilding is expecting to build more than just ships.

The Pascagoula-based company is hopeful that its collaboration with the Capps Center and the state’s community college network will enable them to assemble a fleet of trained and qualified pipefitters who will want to come to their shipyard to work.
