Services for Otis Tommy Stanford of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Sunflower, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redmon Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Stanford, 41, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 in Tampa.

A private burial will follow the service.



Milvin Dixon Sr.

Services for Melvin Dixon Sr. of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Dixon, 53, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Sesame Street in Communities providing local child trauma resources in Indianola

STONEVILLE, MS – Representatives from Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind Sesame Street, were in the Mississippi Delta recently to provide updated training for Delta Health Alliance employees on how to identify and work with children who have experienced traumatic events through the Sesame Street in Communities program.

The Gentry High School Jobs for Mississippi Student of the Week is Janyia Elmore. The senior Indianola native plans to go into the construction industry after graduating, with a dream job in carpentry. Elmore spends spare time being creative and making things with her hands. Shortly before Alabama mounted a historic come-from-behind win against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game last Saturday, another Yellowhammer state team was putting the finishing touches on a conference title of its own.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham defeated Middle Tennessee State 27-25 for the Conference USA title.

B.B. King Museum voted best Mississippi attraction by USA Today readers

Voters from around the world made their voices heard this week.

USA Today revealed that Indianola’s B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center was voted Mississippi’s best attraction in its readers’ choice poll.

Voting took place over a couple of weeks, ending last Monday at noon.






Frisco students make stop at Gentry

A group of 18 students, from the Urban School of San Francisco, made a stopover at Gentry High School on Monday as part of the Civil Rights study. The students began their observations at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis before visiting the campus of Ole Miss and making their way to Indianola.
