Locked out of lockup: Moorhead chief, officers suspended

Moorhead Police Chief Bobby Walker said he and four of his fellow officers, including Assistant Chief Sherry Myers, have been locked out of his office and the police department by the city manager and they want to know why.

In addition, Walker and Officer Patrick Mitchell have been suspended from duty.

Sunflower County Library System awarded state, federal grants

The Mississippi Library Commission has awarded more than $7 million in grants to public libraries across the state, and Sunflower County will receive just under $100,000.

By way of state and federal aid, the MLC allocated the funding to 53 library systems statewide, a release from the commission said.

A memorial service for Arthur Earl Smith of Grandville, Mich., formerly of Inverness, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley First Baptist Church, Inverness.

Mr. Smith, 46, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2018 in Grandville.

Pastor W.T. McCormick will officiate at the service.

Betty Lou Jackson Willis

Services for Betty Lou Jackson Willis of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Fellowship Church of God in Christ.

Mrs. Willis, 55, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.



Milton Keith Baker

Milton Keith Baker, 82, of Indianola, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 at his home. 

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Graveside services will follow at 11:45 a.m. at Indianola City Cemetery. 




Limmie Cade

Services for Limmie Cade of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Cade, 84, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

City says “Concerned Citizens” group can’t meet in public building

After a lengthy debate, the Indianola Board of Aldermen voted 3 to 2 against allowing use of a city-owned building to the Concerned Citizens Committee to conduct its regular monthly meetings.
Alderman Marvin Elder made the motion to allow.
“Let’s not hold them up,” he said. Alderman Ruben Woods seconded and they both voted yes.
