Summer PLUS Camp at Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University to Offer Arts Classes Digitally

The Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University is looking forward to offering virtual arts classes at this year’s PLUS Camp. The weeklong day camp, part of the Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute, will transition to online courses the week of July 6-10 and will be offered at a reduced rate of $50 per camper.

Sunflower County crew helps save woman, daughter from water

A Yazoo City woman and her daughter are alive today because of the help of several strangers, including four from Sunflower County.

Jackie Jenkins, Jack Jenkins, Connor Moore and Seth Todd were looking to unwind last week by doing some fishing on the coast, but that would not be their first experience in the water that day.

SCCSD board gets full-court press after department denied some gym access

A Facebook post and an apparent personal plea from Indianola Parks and Recreation Director Carolyn O'Neal resulted in a group of parents and community members showing up for Tuesday night's Sunflower County Consolidated School District's Board of Trustees meeting at Robert L. Merritt Junior High.

Miskia Davis is entering her third year as head of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District. In just a short time, the Montgomery County native and Drew transplant has made headway with the district’s elementary students, with an over 90 percent pass rate on this year’s third grade gate test.


Young woman shot and killed in Indianola tonight

A young Indianola woman was pronounced dead at the scene after gunfire erupted just before sunset on Friday near the intersection of Garrard Avenue and Curtis Street in Indianola.

Police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Alberta Garner.

Garner is the second young woman to be gunned down in Indianola since March.
