Gordon Dale Mitchell, 72, of Doddsville, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Merit Health Central in Jackson.

Gordon was born April 27, 1947 to Tom Byrd Mitchell and Flora Lee Holmes Mitchell. He was of Baptist faith.


Lazirric Walker

Services for Lazirric Walker of Isola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stranger Home Missionary Baptist Church, Isola.

Mr. Walker, 25, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola, which is in charge of arrangements.



Ray Woods Jr.

Services for Ray Woods Jr. of Indianola were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mr. Woods, 72, departed from this life on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020.

Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home, Indianola, which was in charge of arrangements.

‘He could make anybody laugh’: Smith remembered by friends and teachers at Indianola Academy

For a quiet kid, Caleb Smith never had a problem making his friends and teachers laugh.

He was funny, honest, confident and bright, according to those who knew and loved him.

Smith, 17, tragically lost his life on Sunday, after being accidently shot with a handgun at a friend’s home in Indianola early Sunday morning.

A native of Skene, located just outside of Cleveland, Britt has lived in Indianola for over two decades. She’s raised two children here, and recently she assumed the role of one of the city’s top volunteers.
