I suppose it would be ridiculous to imply that LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron has more political influence in Louisiana than President Donald Trump.
But it’s worth noting that Orgeron, not Trump, was on the winning side of the Louisiana governor’s race Saturday.
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History has an excellent record of preserving the state’s history. But in considering a closed Jackson motel for a historic landmark designation, the agency is missing the mark.
The motel is the Sun-N-Sand, located on North Lamar Street a block west of the state Capitol grounds.

According to a statement by District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson, a grand jury in Sunflower County recently handed down a guilty verdict in the April 17, 2017 shooting death of Aaron Beamon and the wounding of Savantae Pernell and Zachary Lee who were passengers in the car with Beamon.
Prior to the Nov. 11 Indianola Board of Aldermen meeting, Indianola Mayor Steve Rosenthal placed a document, purportedly a veto nixing the hiring of a full time assistant to the city clerk, into the aldermen’s packets.
