Murder suspect in Custody

An Indianola man wanted in connection with a Wednesday evening shooting that resulted in the death of one man and the hospitalization of another is now in police custody.

Shortly after noon on Monday, Chief Edrick Hall said Stephon Snipes 20, 200 Maybelle Street, turned himself in to law enforcement officers.







Mary Lou Boyce Posey

Mary Lou Boyce Posey passed away at her residence in Starkville on June 6, 2019 at the age of 75.  She was a retired elementary teacher in the Starkville School District, and was a member of the Mississippi Association of Educators and Daughters of the American Revolution.


Cleatho Stevenson

Services for Cleatho Stevenson of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church.

Ms. Stevenson, 60, died Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Dillon Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Lynn Delas and Debbie Woodruff are names that ring out synonymously with a long line of dedicated educators, and the students at IA have been truly blessed by their presence.




Tempers, blood pressure spike over District 13

It took two tries at two separate meetings, but after a 3-2 vote on Monday a letter is finally being drafted from the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors asking the federal courts to revisit a submitted proposed plan to redraw the lines of Senate District 13 and look at other options that do not split Sunflower County.

UAB, Head Coach Bill Clark, finally set free

Shortly before Alabama mounted a historic come-from-behind win against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game last Saturday, another Yellowhammer state team was putting the finishing touches on a conference title of its own.
