Emergency? E-911 director asks board to answer call as equipment nears end of life

A request to upgrade the emergency 911 equipment at the Sunflower County Sheriff's Department has been temporarily put on hold until the next scheduled meeting.

E-911 Director John Thompson said although the current equipment is still functioning properly it has reached the manufacturer’s recommended life expectancy.

IA’s boys basketball season comes to an end after 73-62 loss to Hillcrest Christian

The 2019 basketball season is now over for the Indianola Academy Colonels.

With their 73-62 AAA State Tournament loss suffered last Wednesday to Hillcrest Christian School of Jackson, the IA squad completed their season as the District 1AAA champions and with a 14-12 record.



Betty Robinson

Services for Betty Robinson of Greenwood, formerly of Moorhead, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Higher Heights Baptist Church, Moorhead.

Ms. Robinson, 57, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home, Indianola.



Calvin Dorsey

Services for Calvin Dorsey of Belzoni will be at 12 noon Saturday at New Life Saint Paul Church of God in Christ, Belzoni.

Mr. Dorsey, 80, died Sunday, June 16, 2019.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home, Belzoni, which is in charge of arrangements.



Lena Scarbrough Dennis

Services for Lena Scarbrough Dennis of Blaine will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Walker Chapel Church, Doddsville.

Mrs. Dennis, 67, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Baptist Hospital, Jackson.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Byas Funeral Home in Ruleville, which is in charge of arrangements.


Arthur Robert Bernard

Services for Arthur Robert Bernard, formerly of Indianola, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holmes-Glover-Solomon Funeral Directors’ Rosa Glover Holmes Memorial Chapel in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Bernard, 62, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

The game-winning overtime touchdown pass lobbed into the end zone on second down by Starkville Academy running back Taylor Arnold sent the otherwise undefeated Colonels home from Jackson Academy with their only loss of the season on Nov. 18.



Community gathers for first of many meetings on school facilities
