MDOC faces long-term issues

Newly-inaugurated Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves announced in his first State of the State address on Monday the most radical change in the Mississippi Department of Corrections under his short tenure.

He has ordered MDOC to prepare to close the notorious Unit 29 at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Job fair a good case study

There’s a lot to be said about the dwindling population in the Mississippi Delta.

That trend continues to negatively affect the region’s healthcare, education and economic development.

It’s difficult recruiting jobs to a region that is losing its labor pool more and more year-after-year.

Healthy State, Ole Miss football programs good for everybody

Die-hard Mississippi State football fans who basked in the forced resignation of Hugh Freeze in the summer of 2017 and in the NCAA’s subsequent destruction of the Ole Miss football program hopefully have come to understand that such outcomes are not good for either side of that rivalry, nor the state as a whole.

And once again Pastor Guy Burke, First Baptist Church and other community members teamed up to provide that enriching experience for local high school football athletes.
