Martha Sue Speer Gardner, 91, of Indianola, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at her home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Indianola, to William Clarence Speer and Margaret Ellen Stoltz Speer. She attended college at Mississippi University for Women and Texas Woman’s University. Martha Sue was a lifelong resident of Indianola. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Indianola.
Martha Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John William Gardner; son, Bert Deering Gardner; and two brothers, Pete Speer and Creath Speer.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Lowry Gardner Labella of Indianola; two nieces, Ellen Speer Clayton of Indianola and Linda Speer Pemberton of Houston, Texas; and three nephews, Michael Shephard Speer of Washington, DC, William Patrick Speer of New Orleans and Mark F. Speer of Houston, Texas.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Indianola City Cemetery with the Rev. Charlie Deaton officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
