Leland Medical Clinic, which is supported by Delta Health Alliance, was notified recently by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration’s Bureau of Health Workforce that it is now an officially designated National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site, according to a release issued by DHA this week.
DHA says the designation will help LMC attract more primary care and mental health providers to the Mississippi Delta through the NHSC Loan Repayment Program.
Similar to other service corps organizations like Teach for America, the National Health Service Corp members are eligible to have student loans up to $75,000 eliminated by working in a medically underserved designated area for a minimum of two years and may reapply after the initial award.
“Being a NHSC designated site allows us to appeal to providers who might not have considered practicing in the Delta,” said DHA CEO Karen Matthews.
Matthews said that the partnership with HRSA is a winning one for Delta residents and health care providers.
