Residents in the town of Sunflower recently held a “Paint the City Blue” event in recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Coordinators John Chapman and Mayor Desiree Norwood collaborated on the event with the intent to bring awareness to prostate cancer. The outdoor affair featured screenings for various health issues including BMI, blood pressure and HIV plus a panel discussion was also scheduled.
Participating vendors included The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, the Tobacco Free Coalition of Sunflower and Bolívar counties, Delta Health Alliance’s Pre-Diabetes Program, Humphreys County Health Network and the Rash Temple MB Church.
The organizers also presented a healthy male award that was presented to the Ruleville High School football team for having the most participants to get screened and visit the booths.
The activities were held in front of and in conjunction with the grand opening of Chapman's Grill at 108 Martin Luther King Jr Drive in Sunflower.
