A private funeral mass for Norma Lee Allen, 92, of Indianola was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 9. She passed away at her home on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021. Burial was at Indianola City Cemetery. Boone Funeral Home, Indianola was entrusted with the arrangements.
Norma was born May 25, 1928 in Clarksdale. Her mother died when Norma was 6 years old. She and her sister were sent to Shaw to live with their Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim. Their son Steve Quartararo and his wife Evelyn later became the girls’ foster parents. Steve and Evelyn ran the Blue Front Cafe in Shaw and the girls often helped out. Norma attended Shaw High School and later enrolled at Memphis State and Baptist Memorial Hospital where she received her RN degree. She worked at Baptist Hospital and later at Veterans Hospital, where she met Bill Allen, one of her patients, who became her husband on Oct. 12, 1955. Norma worked as a private duty nurse for a while then later worked at South Sunflower County Hospital and the Health Department. She volunteered at her children's school, was a scout leader and was very active in the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Allen; her sister, Mary Anne Sutherland; her parents, Catherine Liberto Andrews and William Walter Andrews; along with her foster parents, Steve and Evelyn Quartararo.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Allen and Kathy Allen, both of Marietta, Ga., and Sharon Allen-Peterson (Don) and her grandson Cade Peterson, all of Roswell, Ga.
