Billy Gene Cox

A Homegoing Celebration for Billy Gene Cox will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Ruleville Baptist Church in Ruleville.

Billy, age 69, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at his home with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born on Aug. 17, 1950 in Ruleville to William "Cooter" and Annie Gertrude "Gert" Stringfellow Cox. Gert and Cooter Cox now have their family back together.   

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen Hall Cox; five brothers, Jimmie, Kenneth, Jerry, Bobby and Guy Cox; sister-in-law, Judy Cox; and a grandson, Michael-Evans Thomas.

He was an employee of Cleveland Lumber Company around 45 or 50 years before starting his own business known as Cox Carpentry. Billy spent his younger years in Drew and had lived in Ruleville for the past 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Cox of Ruleville; two sons, Matthew (Elizabeth) Cox of Skene and Jeremy Jackson of Ruleville; three daughters, Sarah (Will) Morris of Senatobia and Jessica Jones and Rebecca (Matthew) Hamilton, both of Cleveland; five grandsons, Conner, Walker, Gunner and Keevan Cox and Jorden Morris; five granddaughters, Samantha Thomas, Raleigh Thomas,  Kaidence Morris, MaceyJane  Hamilton and Everleigh Jones; three sisters-in-law, Bernie, Elaine and Sherry Cox; five nephews and one niece; his very best friends, Mike and Pam Case of Norfolk, Va., and many, many dear friends.

Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 until the 3 p.m. Homegoing Celebration at the church. The Rev. Robert Haney and the Rev. Charles Young will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Wade Eubanks, Jeremy Jackson, Brooks Reynolds, Lake Cox, Tony Cox, and Jeff Cox. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Hamilton, Will Morris, Marshall Hopper, Jr. Mitchell, Johnny Robinson, Gregg Bills, Caleb Payne, Scott Eubanks, Maury Eubanks, members of Ruleville Baptist Church, and his friends at Cleveland Lumber Company, Fleming Lumber Company and North Sunflower Medical Center. He dearly loved ALL of his friends and family. Interment will follow in Lehrton Cemetery.
