Billy Joe Childs, 76, went to be with his wife, Donie Ruth and son, Joey on May 20, 2021.
He was born Dec. 4, 1944 to James Alfred and Nancy Colyer Childs. He lived his entire life in the Belzoni-Gooden Lake area.
He is survived by: his two daughters, Nancy Angelene Childs Durham (Joe) and Mary Anita Childs Forbes (Robbie); his surviving siblings, Gary Childs (Jill), Doris Grisham and Edna Pearl Hobson; and loving sisters-in-law; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends that he cherished time with through the years. He was blessed with one grandson, Preston Forbes.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; son; parents; and seven siblings, James, Robert (Bud), Garnel Wesley, Willie Rufus, Tommy, Morris and Alfred Jr. Childs.
He was raised on the family farm growing crops and raising livestock. To support his young family, he started working in home construction and metal building construction. This turned into his lifelong dream of owning his own business. He started Childs Construction Company and serviced the Humphreys County area for many decades. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with Preston and Robbie on the farm, doing what he could to help. He also enjoyed deer hunting with them. There was always a lot of discussion about his story accuracy concerning the wild animals and game he saw through his binoculars and scope.
The family received friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26 at Straight Bayou Baptist Church in Anguilla. Funeral services began at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
