Helen Louise Boykin Allison, 88, of Indianola and formerly of Moorhead, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Indywood Personal Care Home in Indianola.
Helen was born April 26, 1933, in Itta Bena, to John and Clarice Watson Boykin. She was a graduate of Humphreys High School and Sunflower County Junior College where she was a drum major and Miss Homecoming. Helen then attended Millsaps College. She worked at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, kept the books for her husband's farm, and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Helen was a member of the Moorhead Garden Club and served on the board of the Sunflower County Health Department. She served on the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Board and also served as Women's Chair volunteer for many years. Helen was a member of Sunflower Methodist Church and later Moorhead Methodist Church and remained active in both churches until her health deteriorated. She was well known as Mommie and Heidi.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Clarice Watson Boykin; husband, Morris Allison; and sister, Allene Fitts.
She is survived by two children, Clara Allison Bilbo (James) of Madison and Hiram (Sheila) Allison of Inverness; six grandchildren, Rance Bilbo, Drew (Amanda) Bilbo, Tyler (Beth) Bilbo, DJ Pittman, Wendy Pittman and Misty Miller; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Holloway of Indianola.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, June 11 at Moorhead Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Veronica Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery.
