Jackie Steed

Jackie Steed, 75, of Indianola, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Jackie was born Sept. 26, 1944 in Cleveland to Lennie Milton Steed and Lucille McFerrin Steed. He was a Mississippi Army National Guard veteran. In his younger days, Jackie enjoyed playing guitar, and riding horses. He worked his entire career in law enforcement and corrections. Jackie worked for Indianola Police Department, MS Department of Corrections, Public Service Commission, and retired from Mississippi Department of Transportation. After his retirement from MDOT, he went to work as a deputy for the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department. Jackie spent most of his time working in his yard and it was always immaculate. He was a member of Roundaway Baptist Church in Doddsville.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Danny Steed and Milton Steed.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Johnson Steed of Indianola; son, Mark Steed and wife Gloria of Germantown, Tenn.; two stepsons, Jeff Myers of Marks and Chris Myers and wife Susie of Bay Springs; two sisters, Robbie Taylor and husband Tommy of Boyle and Kim Harris of Pearl; two grandchildren, Anna Myers and Andrew Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Roundaway Baptist Church in Doddsville. Burial will follow in Roundaway Cemetery.
