Jake Michael Bellipanni, Jr.
Jake Michael Bellipanni, Jr., 66, of Belzoni won his independence from illness on July 4, 2019. He died peacefully at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, surrounded by his closest family members.
A native of Indianola, Jake graduated from Indianola Academy and earned a Bachelor of Business in Accounting at Delta State University, where he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and met his future bride.
Jake was a Certified Public Accountant and began his career with Peat Marwick Mitchell in Memphis in 1974. He later moved to Belzoni to form Nolen & Bellipanni, CPAs. Mr. Bellipanni joined Guaranty Bank and Trust Company in 1983 and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer until his death.
He was actively involved within the Belzoni community and cared deeply about the Delta. In addition to being an integral communicant of All Saints Catholic Church for 42 years, Jake served as Past President of the Belzoni Rotary Club, Humphreys Academy Foundation, Humphreys County Country Club, and Past Chairman of The Southern Financial Exchange.
A passionate outdoorsman and conservationist, Jake loved spending time with his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. Time spent with dear friends from Supper Club over the last 40-plus years was very special to him.
Jake was preceded in death by his father, Jake Michael Bellipanni Sr., and mother, Marie Correro Bellipanni, as well as his brother, James Vincent Bellipanni.
With his many obligations to community, career, and church, Jake always emphasized family, imparting faith and communion together above all. His strongest legacy is the family that he leaves behind. His beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Joy Barnes Bellipanni, was steadfastly by his side until the end. Their strong example of Christian marriage and parenthood is emulated by their children, Jake Michael Bellipanni III (Elizabeth) of Olive Branch; Matthew Barnes Bellipanni (Sarah) of Belzoni; Mark Allen Bellipanni (Anna) of Greenwood; Joel Meyer Bellipanni (Bailee) of Silver City; and James Philip Bellipanni (fiancé, Emily) of Wesson. He also leaves behind a sister, Antoinette Bellipanni, of Jackson, whose love and devotion continued beyond the passing of their parents and brother. He is also survived by half-brothers Anthony Boyer Bellipanni and Kelly Michael Bellipanni. His large extended family was very dear to him.
He was lovingly called Pop by his 9 adoring grandchildren, all of which share in his notorious sense of humor: Riley, Mia Grace, Ross, Jacob, Jack, Kendall, John Hollis, Luke, and Meyer.
Family and friends will celebrate his life on Monday, July 8th, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Belzoni, followed by a funeral mass. Burial ceremony will take place afterward at the Indianola Cemetery, where Jake will be laid to rest with his parents and brother.
Mortimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either All Saints Catholic Church or Catholic Charities. Memorials may also be made by registering as an organ donor, a gesture that gave Jake valuable time spent with his loved ones.
