Katherine Cartwright McCarty

Katherine Cartwright McCarty, 87, of Sunflower, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.  After months of failing health, Katherine “Kaki” McCarty died peacefully at her home surrounded by family.

Katherine was born June 17, 1932 to Johnny Bee Cartwright and Lois Nan Cartwright. In 1953 she married the love of her life, Alvin “Shotgun” McCarty. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and doting grandmother and great-grandmother.  Kaki was a strong, loving and amiable woman. She was loved and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin “Shotgun” McCarty; sister, June Hobbs; and her daughter Kathy McCarty.

Kaki is survived by one son, Chuck McCarty and his wife Marcia of Oxford; and one daughter, Cindy Miller and her husband Lynn of Sunflower. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Chip Sligh, Ginger Berry (Phillip), Josh Sligh, Elissa (Jackson) Oliver, Lucas McCarty, Josh Bodie, Jessica Bodie, Drew McCarty (Elizabeth), Jordan Stephens, Elizabeth Skelton (Taylor), Jonathan Miller and Chelsea Miller; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Sunflower United Methodist Church. The Rev. Veronica Pritchard will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery.

Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
