Make-A-Wish for Mississippi

By BY MARK H. STOWERS COLUMNIST,

Good Mornin’! Good Mornin’!

Christmas has always been about wishes. Growing up with a Sears catalog as the starter for a Christmas Wish List is a cherished memory. With each dog eared and turned down corner of a page, my Christmas spirit grew. Santa’s sleigh was not nearly large enough to hold all the wishes in that catalog for me but the ones that did come true still hold a special place in my heart. For many, wishes are about life. And the Make-A-Wish Foundation is working hard to find and furnish those special wishes. The Make-A-Wish Foundation Mississippi is sponsoring a Wish Heroes Campaign and men and women across the state have picked up the challenge to help fund the 95 wishes that have been chosen for 2019.

But currently, less than 50 percent of all the eligible children with critical illnesses receive a wish. More donations help bring more of these wishes and dreams to reality. The children come from all walks of life and wishes run the gamut from wishing to be an actress, have a family reunion, have a sensory room, go on a cruise, travel to Disney and other theme parks and many others. The foundation has found that when a wish is granted, these children “replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope.”

This Christmas season make a Sears catalog-esque wish list come true for some special children. Simply go to ms.wish.org and click on giving. You can donate airline miles, set up planned giving, give through your workplace, donate a car or just simply give online.
