One last opportunity for a playoff berth did not pan out for the Gentry High Rams football team.
Last Friday night on their own field, the Rams could not get untracked as they fell by a 31-0 score to the Tunica Rosa Fort High Lions.
With a playoff berth riding on the outcome, the Rams saw their final season record fall to a 1-9 mark while the Lions left Indianola owning an 8-3 record and headed into the 4A state playoffs.
Despite being held scoreless, offensively the Rams accumulated 225 yards with 28 rushes into the line.
Leading a balanced rushing attack with 58 yards on eight carries was Rogerick Brown.
Following close behind was quarterback Joshujuan Townsend with 54 yards on seven rushes while Tyler Edwards (5 for 48 yards) and Gabrien Coulter (4 for 38 yards) made their presence known.
Through the air, Townsend completed three of his seven passes for 25 yards and Xavius Lewis picked up 20 of those yards with his pair of receptions.
Defensively, the Rams were led by John Whites’ seven solo, three assist night of play.
While Armale Oneal recorded five solos and three assists, Edwards and Eric McGowan added four solo tackles and five assists apiece.
Rounding out the Rams’ defensive leaders was Michael Beckworth, who turned in a four solo, two assist night of play.
There were 15 seniors wearing the Gentry High uniform for the final time last Friday night on their home-field.
